How to Eat Healthier at Work

Like most of us, you probably spend most of your day at the office, sitting in a chair, working the clock away.  A recent article from caloriesecrets.com tells us “How to Eat Healthier at the Office”.

Keeping a healthy environment at the office is important for health and for weight loss goals, but for many people the work place can be a struggle to maintain healthy eating habits.  Follow these simple, practical steps you can take to create an environment that encourages healthy eating at work.

EAT BREAKFAST

eating-healthier-at-the-officeIt may be a struggle to eat something before you head out the door in the morning.  However, making extra time to have breakfast, even if it’s as little as 5 minutes, may be worth the extra hassle because of the health benefits associated with eating breakfast.

One suggestion for why this happens is that missing a meal in the morning may make you eat more later in the day, thus over compensating your calorie intake.  Eating breakfast can help stabilize blood sugar levels in the morning and may help you make better food choices at work throughout the day.

Don’t have any time for breakfast?  Take a few minutes the night before to prepare breakfast.

Examples for a healthy breakfast include:

  • Plain oatmeal with fruit and ground cinnamon
  • Smoothie made with frozen/fresh fruit, green leafy veggies and dairy or dairy alternative milk
  • Egg burrito with scrambled eggs, veggies, cheese and salsa wrapped in a whole grain tortilla
  • Yogurt with nuts and dried fruit

Breakfast can be as simple as grabbing a banana and a bar on your way out the door.  Keep in mind when planning breakfast to include a protein source in the morning, as some research suggests this can extra help with regulating food intake later in the day.

PACK YOUR MEALS

healthy-lunchAvoid the temptation to go out for lunch on a consistent basis.  You will save money and be healthier by packing your own meals.

Don’t have time?  Pack your lunch the night before, possibly while you are also getting your breakfast laid out for the next day.

Combining a lean protein, healthy fats and fiber in a meal can best stabilize blood sugar levels.  Eating a healthy lunch can help you combat the urge to indulge on treats in the office or around other co-workers.

TAKE YOUR BREAKS

lunch breaksSchedule breaks for you to get up and walk around throughout the day, even if it’s just for a minute or two.  Research suggests sitting for long periods of time can be detrimental to health.

Sitting doesn’t burn that many calories.  Increase calorie expenditure by taking short walks, jumping jacks, body weight lunges/squats or walking up and down flights of stairs every hour or two (ideally) for 5-10 minutes.

If that is unrealistic, start somewhere, even if it’s a couple minute break every 2-3 hours.  Something is better than nothing.

Moving more during the day could also motivate you to eat healthier through the day.  If the urge comes to dip into the office candy dish, go for a walk around the office instead.

OUT OF SIGHT, OUT OF MIND

One reason eating healthy at the office is difficult is because of the many sweets and treats around co-workers desks and in the break room.  Instead of letting these things sabotage your weight loss efforts, alter the environment so the healthier option is easiest.

Move candy dishes and jars out of plain sight and on a higher shelf or in a drawer.  It seems too simple, but this little move can make a big difference on calorie intake.

STORE THE RIGHT SNACKS

nuts dried fruitHave healthy snacks in an office drawer, so when hunger or snack cravings hit you are prepared with options that aren’t sugar laden.

Store healthy snacks like nuts, dried fruit or whole grain crackers so you can munch on them when needed instead of sweets in the break room.

Building Left ViewPacific Lipo is San Diego’s leading liposuction office.  Offering some of the most affordable, all-inclusive pricing in town, we specialize in tumescent liposculpture. Liposculpture is also known as Body Sculpting, Body Contouring, Lipo, Lipotherme, and Liposuction. Liposculpturing involves a more artistic approach to liposuction. This new advanced liposuction technique gently and safely removes fat while minimizing the risk of skin irregularities and other more serious complications compared to the more conventional liposuction methods.

Liposculpture is much less invasive than traditional liposuction and the results are just as permanent.  Microsurgery techniques reshape problem areas of the body without significant trauma to the patient.  As a result, there is minimal bruising and the tiny 1-2 mm scars are almost nonexistent after healing for most patients.

Whether it’s your thighs, love handles, abdomen, arms, legs, or chin/neck that need reduction, liposculpture may be the permanent solution that you have been seeking.

Our staff has performed more than 15,000 procedure and we are here and ready to put our experience and expertise to work today to make your life better.

Get Fit with a “Pep Talk” Article from Shape Magazine

woman-working-out

When you’re struggling through that last mile or those final few reps, cheer yourself on. Encouraging words can help you exercise significantly longer, according to a new study in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise. People who said mantras to themselves boosted their endurance and also reported that their workouts felt easier. The key is to have different messages for each stage of your session, says study coauthor Anthony Blanchfield: “Try something motivational at the beginning and middle, then say a phrase about pushing through discomfort at the end.” Statements as simple as “I’m feeling good” and “stay strong” can offer just the lift you need.

Society Influences Today’s Body Image

Today’s modern society places a lot of emphasis on bodies through magazines, television, and social media.  Making those bodies closer to what society perceives as normal can occasionally cause social miracles. For many people, the inability to have an attractive, youthful shape creates great stress, particularly for those who have tried to improve their figure through diet and exercise. Liposuction is the most common cosmetic procedure for both men and women to reshape problem areas of the body.

At Pacific Lipo, we understand that genetically, most people cannot reshape their problem areas where fat accumulates without help.  Now there’s an affordable, better, safer, and quicker procedure to bring you the confidence you deserve.  We specialize in performing liposculpture in the abdomen, love handles, arms, back, thighs, buttocks, chin and neck, pubic area, buffalo hump, and male chest.

Eat Mindfully by Cooking Light Magazine

‘Tis the season to find that evanescent, tricky balance between feasting with family and friends and remaining aware and in control. Cooking Light Magazine brings us these Top 4 Strategies for Balancing Your Relationships with Food …

1.  Listen to your body.  “Food affects your energy.  Whether you’re listening or not, your body gives you instant information when you eat.  I know within the first couple of minutes I eat something if it’s giving energy or draining it.  Mindfulness of the body is something hardly anyone has.  It takes practice.  Your body is there to you that information, but most people don’t listen to it.  They don’t want to.”

2.  Evaluate your satisfaction.  Stop halfway through eating, and rate how you feel.  “There’s a difference between satisfied and full,” Roth says.  When rich holiday treats are all around, it’s especially important to enjoy mindfully, find satisfaction, and then stop.

3.   Stop Multitasking.  “Eating while doing something else prevents you from being truly satisfied with what you eat, so you keep going for more.  When you’re mindful, you’re not doing other things – you don’t have the attention to spare.  Allow yourself to have the food and enjoy it.”  In party season, you don’t have to insert food into every moment of every social event.  Mind your food; then mind your friends

4.  Focus on what you have.  ‘Many people eat because they are focusing on what they don’t have, feeling there’s constantly something missing.  They look to food to fill that hunger.”  Roth is talking about gratitude here, thankfulness, and the presence of mind to avoid the easy substitute of food or alcohol.  One thing to be thankful for this season, of course, is food itself – not a contradiction if you can consume it mindfully, moderately, and with thanks.

Have a Happy Holidays from Pacific Lipo!

“I just want to thank you for giving me my confidence back! I’ve been self conscious about my cheeks for over 8 years. After having my son, it seemed like I couldn’t lose the weight no matter what I did, and even if I toned my body, my cheeks were still fat. I’m not even all the way healed yet, but I wanted to show you a couple pictures of the dramatic change. (before and after) This has helped my self esteem so much that it’s helped me and my husband’s love life. I couldn’t be happier. Thanks a million.”
